California counts ballots that are postmarked on or before Election Day and received within the allowed window.

⚠️ Important Vote-by-Mail Advisory
Due to recent U.S. Postal Service changes, mail is often postmarked when it is processed, not when it is dropped in a mailbox. To be sure your vote counts, mail your ballot at least 7 days before Election Day, or use an official ballot drop box or vote center. If mailing close to Election Day, go to a post office counter and request a hand-canceled postmark.
